Le poste de Scientist in the Field of Aerosol and Cloud Research sera rattaché à l’Institut de Météorologie et de Recherche Climatique (IMKAAF) et débutera le 1er octobre 2025 pour une durée de deux ans. Les nuages jouent un rôle vital dans le système climatique terrestre, affectant le climat par des effets de réchauffement ou de refroidissement selon leur composition. La recherche s’intéresse particulièrement aux particules nucléantes de glace (INPs), qui influencent la formation de cristaux de glace et les propriétés radiatives des nuages. Au sein de l’infrastructure de recherche européenne ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure), vous aurez l’opportunité de contribuer à la compréhension de ces processus critiques pour la modélisation climatique.
Responsabilités clés
En tant que membre de l’équipe ACTRIS à l’IMKAAF, vos principales responsabilités incluront :
- La mise en service de la nouvelle chambre de simulation de nuages ACTRIS à l’IMKAAF.
- Validation et comparaison des instruments de mesure des INPs avec des technologies de pointe.
- Élaboration de directives pour les mesures des INPs au sein du réseau ACTRIS.
- Réalisation d’audits de qualité dans les stations ACTRIS à travers l’Europe.
- Organisation et conduite de sessions de formation et d’ateliers.
Profil du candidat recherché
Les critères pour postuler incluent :
- Titre universitaire et doctorat en météorologie, physique, chimie physique ou dans un domaine connexe.
- Connaissances solides en physique des aérosols.
- Expérience pratique dans la mesure des aérosols atmosphériques, idéalement des INPs.
- Compétences en évaluation, analyse et visualisation de données de mesure utilisant Python.
- Esprit d’équipe, compétences organisationnelles et excellentes capacités de communication, de préférence en anglais et en allemand.
- Disponibilité à voyager pour le travail, y compris vers des observatoires éloignés dans des conditions climatiques extrêmes.

For this, about 9.800 employees of KIT cooperate in a broad range of disciplines in research, academic education, and innovation.We are looking for the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research Atmospheric Aerosol Research (IMKAAF) to start on 01.10.2025 limited for 2 years for aScientist in the Field of Aerosol and Cloud Research (f/m/d)Clouds play a key role in the Earth’s climate system, as they can have either a warming or cooling effect depending on their composition. The interaction with ice-nucleating particles (INPs) is particularly important, as these particles initiate the formation of ice crystals, thereby influencing the radiative properties of clouds and formation of precipitation. As part of the European research infrastructure ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure), we at KIT contribute to a better understanding of these processes and to high-quality data for climate modelling. To this end, we work in international teams on quality assurance of INP data and organize validation experiments in the AIDA (Aerosol Interaction and Dynamics in the Atmosphere) cloud simulation chambers operated at IMKAAF.
AufgabenAs a member of our ACTRIS team at IMKAAF, you will take on key responsibilities in the quality assurance of INP measurement data:
- Putting the new ACTRIS cloud simulation chamber at IMKAAF into service
- Validation and comparison of INP measurement instruments using state-of-the-art technology
- Establishment of guidelines for INP measurements within the ACTRIS network
- Conducting quality audits at ACTRIS stations across Europe
- Organizing and conducting training sessions and workshops
Profil
- Completed university degree and PhD in meteorology, physics, physical chemistry, or a related field
- Solid knowledge of aerosol physics
- Practical experience in measuring atmospheric aerosols, ideally including ice-nucleating particles (INPs)
- Experience in the evaluation, analysis, and visualization of measurement data using Python
- Team spirit, organizational skills, and excellent communication abilities, ideally in English and German
- Willingness to travel for work, including to remote observatories in extreme climatic conditions or at high altitudes
