Description du poste : Applications are now being invited for Board Members for both Appointed and Elected positions on the Board of Athletics New Zealand. In 2025, one appointed and one elected position are to be filled.POSITION DESCRIPTION
Athletics New Zealand is focused on enhancing and promoting athletics in New Zealand. It looks after the sport across all disciplines – from grassroots community participation right through to international high-performance competition, including track and field athletics, cross country running, mountain running, road running, race walking, as well as associated programmes and development initiatives.Athletics New Zealand works with partners, sponsors and stakeholders to support a growing network of clubs, communities and their members to provide a structure that aims to ensure there are safe, fun and accessible opportunities for all to participate – from preschoolers through to masters and across a wide range of events and other activities. The high performance program supports athletes to perform at their best, reinforced by outstanding performances at the recent 2024 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in Paris!Comprised of seven positions and the President, the Athletics New Zealand Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organisation, monitoring management’s performance and ensuring best practice governance. Athletics New Zealand also recognises the need for a diverse, inclusive and gender balanced Board composition to ensure diversity of experience, thought and capability.IDEAL APPLICANT DESCRIPTION
The organisation welcomes applications from candidates who can demonstrate a mix of strengths across a number of key skills and competencies. Successful applicants will ideally have:
- Knowledge of, and experience in, athletics.
- Experience as a director and in providing strategic direction with relevant commercial acumen.
- Experience in areas of law, management, strategy, finance, and/or health and safety would be well received.
- An understanding of the rapidly changing dynamic of the sporting sector and member based organisations, including the ongoing competition for attracting and retaining members, as well as experience with high performance sport and cultural diversity.
The voluntary positions are for a three-year term. The expected time commitment is seven board meetings a year (excluding travel time), contribution to board sub-committees and attendance at the AGM.The two current board members who are retiring by rotation in 2025 have both indicated they will be re-standing.
