Description du poste : Please note, this vacancy is open to current University of Glasgow employees onlyJob PurposeThe role holder will be responsible for maintaining, preparing and delivering a year-round programme of maintenance and renovation to the outdoor facilities and surrounding areas, at Garscube Sports Complex. They will maintain the excellent UofG facilities and equipment while sustaining a safe and welcoming environment.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintain a multi-sports complex and deliver an outstanding customer experience by applying knowledge and experience in delivering playing surfaces for all level of users.Responsible for arboriculture and horticulture and renovating natural grass pitch surfaces and nurturing seedlings through stressful periods, and implement corrective measures to control and protect.Carry out soil analysis and calibrate materials to undertake grounds work throughout the year, contributing to best value and improved sustainability.Create and develop work schedules and renovations programme.Erect and dismantle sports equipment for team use and carry out maintenance checks and the reporting of faults.Clear and treat snow and ice during inclement weather to ensure that the paths and roads are accessible to prevent disruption to University of Glasgow Sport’s business continuity.Carry out an environmental assessment prior to applying chemicals or fertilisers to limit damage caused by misuse, drift, or faulty machinery to always ensure safe application to protect the environment plants insect’s species, animals, and persons.Assist in co-ordination with emergency services, customers and Duty Managers in the event of an emergency incidentKnowledge, Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceKnowledge/QualificationsEssential:A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role.A2 Understanding of environmental considerations, sustainability and surrounding eco-system.A3 Hold current PA1 & PA6 certification for chemical spraying.A4 Hold current LANTRA qualifications for pruning and chipping.A5 Knowledge and understanding of repair practices to natural grass pitch surfaces before and after game time/training sessions or events to ensure optimum recovery.A6 Experience in green keeping and fine turf management.A7 Full current and clean Driving License.A8 Knowledge and understanding of safe working practices, including manual handling and implementation of risk assessment corrective measures.A9 First Aid at Work Qualification (or ability to attain within 6 months of employment)A10 IOSH Working Safely (or ability to attain within 12 months of employment).Desirable:B1 NVQ Level 2 Grounds Maintenance and Horticulture or equivalent.B2 Good knowledge and demonstrable experience of artificial sports surfaces.SkillsEssential:C1 Confident and adaptive communicator with interpersonal skills and the ability to respond positively to enquires, using own initiative to resolve issues providing an excellent customer experience.C2 Ability to work to changing priorities unsupervised and deal with customer queries effectively.C3 Ability to work effectively as part of a team.C4 Time management skills with the ability to organise workload and prioritise appropriatelyC5 Ability to take initiative and innovate within the agreed dimensions and duties of the role.ExperienceEssential:E1 Experience of working in an outdoor sports facility/golf course environment.E2 Experience of operating, manoeuvring and maintaining a wide variety of mechanical grounds maintenance equipment (ranging from tractor mounted equipment to pedestrian).Desirable:F1 Experience of learning new techniques and craft practices in line with evolving technology and legislative Health and Safety requirements.Terms and ConditionsSalary will be Grade 4, £23,881 – £26,338 per annum.This post is full time and open ended.Closing Date: 23:45 29th May 2025As a valued member of our team, you can expect:1 A warm welcoming and engaging organisational culture, where your talents are developed and nurtured, and success is celebrated and shared.2 An excellent employment package with generous terms and conditions including 41 days of leave for full time staff, pension – pensions handbook https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/payandpensions/pensions/, benefits and discount packages.3 A flexible approach to working.4 A commitment to support your health and wellbeing, including a free 6-month UofG Sport membership for all new staff joining the University https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/staff/healthwellbeing/.We believe that we can only reach our full potential through the talents of all.
