Description du poste : Details:Mission and objectives:The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board.Context:The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is administered by UNDP and follows all UNDP rules and regulations. UNV is the UN system common service that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers.UNV’s Management Services hold the responsibility for the strategic planning, managerial leadership, oversight, and quality control of an integrated platform of operational services ensuring timely, effective and efficient delivery according to corporate performance standards and in compliance with the UN Regulations and Rules and UNDP´s accountability framework.The ICT Section, part of the Management Services, is divided into three teams: the Infrastructure Team (Datacentre management and support services), the Systems Team (Development and maintenance of corporate applications) and the Data Team (Business Intelligence and Data Analytics). The incumbent provides technical support for the implementation of activities related to data and business intelligence, using various software tools.The UN Volunteer is expected to work remotely for the duration of their assignment without the need to be physically present in the office.UN Volunteers working remotely are bound by the UNV Code of Conduct, which includes the obligation to comply with local laws at their location, including vis-a-vis taxation, licenses, and work permitsFor this special assignment, UN Volunteers are not eligible for exit lump sum and travel entitlements (assignment and repatriation travel).Task description:Design and Optimize Data Infrastructure– Maintain and evolve scalable data repositories (current/future data stores) to ensure seamless data flow and integrity
– Develop and execute complex SQL queries (Azure SQL) to extract actionable insights, while proactively identifying opportunities to enhance system interoperability and data exchangeAdvanced Analytics & Strategic Insights– Apply statistical techniques and analytical rigor to uncover trends, patterns, and correlations in complex datasets, translating findings into actionable recommendations
– Design ETL processes using Azure Data Factory to integrate data from diverse sources, ensuring high-quality datasets for reporting and decision-makingBusiness Intelligence & Innovation– Generate dynamic BI reports using Power BI to visualize key metrics, enabling data-driven decision-making across volunteer management, finance, and operations
– Execute AI/ML initiatives to modernize data workflows, improve predictive analytics, and support UNV’s mission through cutting-edge technologiesCollaborative Problem-Solving– Partner with cross-functional teams to prioritize information needs, troubleshoot data discrepancies, and deliver tailored solutions that align with organizational goals
– Train end-users on BI tools and reports, fostering a culture of data literacy and self-service analyticsProcess Excellence & Documentation– Streamline data governance by implementing robust databases, automated validation protocols, and standardized data collection systems
– Document technical workflows, functional specifications, and user guides to ensure transparency and knowledge-sharing across teamsContinuous Improvement– Identify systemic inefficiencies and lead process innovation projects to enhance data quality, system performance, and stakeholder collaborationRequirements:Technical Skills– Strong knowledge of Power BI for dynamic BI reporting and data visualization
– Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in data engineering, e.g. Python, SQL
– Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)Data Manipulation Tools (Desirable):
– Experience working with tools like Excel, Pandas (Python), or other libraries for data cleaning and transformation.ETL Processes:
– Basic understanding of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) workflows and data pipeline concepts.Version Control:
– Familiarity with version control systems like Git for managing code and collaboration.Scripting and Automation:
– Ability to write scripts to automate repetitive tasks (e.g., Python, PowerShell etc ).Analytical and Problem-Solving SkillsData Analysis:
– Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and process structured and unstructured data.Problem-Solving Mindset:
