Projet : « Male Reproductive Disorders of Foetal origin – Development of an Organoid Model for Mechanistic Insight »

OsloMet leverer forskning og utdanning med høy relevans for arbeidslivet, velferdsstaten og storbyregionen., , has a vacancy for a PhD fellowship in the field of biomedicine. The doctoral candidate will be affiliated with and the research group .Project/ Area of ResearchThe fellowship period is three years. The PhD candidate will work on the project entitled « Male Reproductive Disorders of Foetal origin – Development of an Organoid Model for Mechanistic Insight ».Foetal life is a critical period for testicular development. Disruptances during this developmental period can lead to male reproductive disorders such as reduced androgen production, impaired semen quality and testicular cancer in young adulthood. In recent decades, the incidence of such disorders has risen, including a global increase in testicular cancer and a possible decline in sperm production. Significant geographical differences suggest an environmental component in additional to genetic risk factors. Prenatal exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals is believed to contribute to environmentally induced disturbances in male reproductive health. Current knowledge largely stems from animal models that fail to fully recapitulate the complexity of human testicular development. This PhD project aims to develop an organoid model of the human foetal testis to study both normal and impaired development. The model will enable mechanistic studies into the origins of reproductive disorders using methods such as 3D culture, transcriptomics, proteomics, microscopy and CRISPR technology. The effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals will also be investigated. A detailed project description can be obtained from the contact persons. The academic environment possesses expertise in molecular biology, developmental biology, reproductive biology, and bioinformatics.
