Description du Poste

Le candidat retenu bénéficiera d’un contrat temporaire de trois ans à temps plein, sans obligations d’enseignement. Il est requis que le chercheur soit inscrit au programme de doctorat USN en Technologie dans les trois mois suivant l’arrivée au poste.

Objectif du Projet de Doctorat

Ce projet se concentre sur l’exploration des effets quantiques et gravitationnels à travers de nouveaux modèles de phase quantique, intégrant des relations de commutation non-canoniques. Ces recherches visent à :

• Évaluer l’impact des effets quantiques sur les propriétés thermodynamiques des systèmes microscopiques.
• Fournir des insights sur le comportement physique de divers systèmes, notamment des cristaux et des matériaux.

Le projet bénéficiera d’une approche interdisciplinaire, alliant la géométrie non-commutative, la physique quantique, la physique statistique, la thermodynamique et la science des matériaux, sous la supervision de la Professeure associée Anna Pachol.

Qualifications Requises

Les candidats doivent posséder un Master en Physique (120 ECTS) ou une qualification équivalente, avec une préférence pour ceux ayant une formation en physique théorique, physique mathématique ou disciplines connexes. Bien que l’expérience en géométrie non-commutative soit un atout, les candidats provenant d’autres domaines, y compris la science des matériaux, sont également encouragés à postuler.

La maîtrise de l’anglais, à l’oral comme à l’écrit, est essentielle, et les candidats internationaux doivent fournir une preuve de compétence linguistique par l’un des tests standardisés acceptés.

📝 Description du poste : PhD Research Fellow in Noncommutative Quantum ModelsThe Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences have a vacancy for a position asAbout the positionThe Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences has a vacancy for a temporary 100 % position as PhD Research Fellow in Noncommutative Quantum Models from 01.10.2025.The position is located at the Department of Microsystems and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Campus Vestfold.The employment period will be three years of full time with no teaching obligations, and there is a premise for employment that the PhD Research Fellow is enrolled in USN’s PhD-program in Technology within three months of accession in the position.About the PhD-projectQuantum theory is currently bringing a revolution to technology by introducing new concepts and advancements. However, many fundamental questions remain unanswered. A new frontier for testing quantum effects in the intersection of quantum theory with gravity at low energy scales is now in focus.This project focuses on investigating the implications of quantum and gravitational effects in various models by extending the formalism of quantum theory. By studying novel quantum phase space models (which include non-canonical commutation relations) the project aims to investigate impacts on the thermodynamical properties of microscopic systems and materials’ structure as well as to gain insight into potential new effects and physical behaviour across various physical systems (including crystals and materials, e.g. piezoelectrics).The project will combine mathematical and theoretical framework from noncommutative geometry (quantum space-times), quantum physics, statistical physics, thermodynamics and material science. The main supervisor of the PhD-project will be Associate Professor Anna Pachol.QualificationsApplicants to the PhD position must have a Master’s degree (120 ECTS) equivalent higher education qualifications in Physics (with background in theoretical physics, mathematical physics, or related disciplines). Any previous experience with noncommutative geometry and quantum theory will be considered as an advantage, but strong candidates from other fields including material science or condensed matter physics, are encouraged to apply as well.The degree must be accomplished before application deadline. However, students in the process of finalizing their degree before the scheduled commencement of the position may also apply and can be offered a position conditioned on a satisfactory result.The candidate must have the ability to work independently and at the same time have the motivation to share knowledge and take part in team work. Personal suitability for the post will be emphasised.It is a requirement that the successful applicant is granted admission to the university’s doctoral programme in Technology within three months of accession in the position. For admission to the Programme the weighted average grade is B or higher is usually required.Co-operation between staff members is an integrated part of the working atmosphere at the University of South-Eastern Norway. The candidate must be motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively within a team and in a collegiate manner to formulate and realise common objectives.The applicant must document that they are fluent in English orally and in writing.Documentation of skills in English languageStrong communication skills in English language skills are required for participation in the doctoral program.
