Location: Uitenhage / Kariega, South Africa
Division: Engineering Services
Reporting to: Engineering Manager – Product DevelopmentPurpose of the RoleTo ensure that automotive products developed by SEGULA Technologies meet client market requirements by engineering components and systems tailored to local conditions, delivering optimal quality, cost, and performance. The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for adapting original equipment designs for regional application, developing innovative solutions, and supporting production and quality teams to ensure problem-free manufacturing and full lifecycle technical support.Key Responsibilities

• Design & Development:

• Adapt and develop OEM component designs to suit environmental and operational conditions specific to African markets.
• Ensure local content compliance through the technical development of locally manufactured parts.
• Contribute to the introduction of innovative and unique product features.
• Production Support (“Serienbetreuung”):

• Resolve component-related production issues (e.g., incorrect CKD shipments, fitment challenges, alternative sourcing due to shortages).
• Support change management activities across customer programmes and platforms.
• Documentation & Compliance:

• Prepare and manage engineering documentation such as Engineering Change Requests (ECR), deviations, and technical release data.
• Ensure alignment with internal and client-specific development processes (e.g., Product Emergence Process or equivalent standards).
• Cost and Quality Improvement:

• Initiate and lead cost-reduction measures through structured forums and localisation projects.
• Support quality assurance and field issue resolution processes.
• Project Participation:

• Lead or support special edition or variant projects and technical support for discontinued models still required in Africa.

Minimum RequirementsEducation:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.

Experience:

• 3+ years in product development within the automotive industry.
• Exposure to series production support and change management is advantageous.

Skills:

• Strong technical and engineering knowledge.
• Proficient in technical documentation and design tools.
• High computer literacy (Excel, CAD tools, product lifecycle systems).
• Problem-solving and analytical capability.
• Project management knowledge and ability to manage multiple workstreams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• German language proficiency is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
