agricultural research center with its headquarters in Taiwan and regional offices

contribute to improved incomes and diets in the Global South by increasing the

economical, environmental y safe, and sustainable disease management strategies
for improving human, plant, and environmental health. The position wil be based at
WorldVeg’s headquarters in Shanhua, Tainan, Taiwan, and within the Safe and
Sustainable Value Chains Program.Key Responsibilities:
● Lead, col aborate on, and conduct laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments
to screen germplasm and breeding populations for resistance or tolerance to virus
diseases in vegetables and legumes in close col aboration with and in response to
requests from WorldVeg breeders.
● Conduct research and development activities on induced resistance and molecular
approaches for managing viral diseases in vegetables and legumes.
● Provide scientific leadership and build partnerships in Vegetable Pathology,
particularly Virology, with an emphasis on integrated disease management
programs in tropical Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
● Develop seed health testing methods and conduct Pest Risk Assessments.
● Supervise a team of dedicated staff, students, and co-workers at WorldVeg
regional centers and headquarters.
● Enhance partners’ capacity to develop and promote integrated disease
management approaches.
● Actively interact and col aborate with other research programs (both internal y and
externally) to develop, implement, and lead innovative research and development
activities in Vegetable Pathology (Virology).
● Actively contribute to project management, reporting, and resource mobilization.
● Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor and as needed by the
Center.Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • PhD in Plant Pathology or Plant Protection, with a minimum of 5 years of

experience working on vegetable and/or legume diseases and seed pathogens,
particularly focusing on viruses.

  • Expertise in molecular diagnostics and characterization of virus and viroid

pathogens.

  • Familiarity with phytosanitary requirements and pest risk assessments is a plus.
  • Experience in initiating experiments, designing experimental plans, executing

research, and analyzing results.

  • Proven ability to work in international, cross-cultural, and collaborative

environments.

  • Strong track record in proposal writing, project management, and publishing in

peer-reviewed journals.

  • Demonstrated networking skil s and ability to build and maintain relationships with

key stakeholders, industry professionals, and partners, especial y in plant
pathology and agriculture.

  • Team-oriented, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural setting and

interact with diverse partners.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English, with strong communication skil s.

The Reward:
This is an International y Recruited Staff (IRS) position with competitive pay and
benefits. This position is initially for a fixed term of 3 years, with the possibility of
renewal based on performance, organizational needs, and funding availability. The
