The St George’s Adult Critical Care Directorate has 60 critical care beds across three critical care units: General Intensive Care (GICU), Neuro Intensive Care (NICU) and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care (CTICU). This is an extremely exciting time for the Directorate with the construction of a new 20 bed adult ICU currently underway. Successful candidates will work across one or more of these units during their period of employment at St George’s and where possible we will accommodate specific unit preferences.We can accommodate experienced trainees/clinical fellows looking to broaden their experience (including subspecialty experience in cardiothoracic or neuro intensive care) as well as novice trainees/clinical fellows with no prior ICM experience. Duties and responsibilities will be commensurate with the individual candidate’s experience and are overseen by consultant intensivists at all times.The applicant should be at registrar level or equivalent or post completion of core training in Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine Training, any of the Acute Care Common Stems or Surgery.Successful candidates for this post will be scored at interview and offered in turn, depending on availability their first choice of rotation.About usSt George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million across southwest London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around 3.5 million people. A Major Trauma Centre complete with Helipad St George’s featured as the main hospital in the acclaimed Channel 4 documentary programme 24 Hours in A& E for 23 seasons.The trust also provides care for patients from a larger catchment area in southeast England, for specialties such as complex pelvic trauma. Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases. The trust also provides a nationwide state-of-the-art endoscopy training centre.Our main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. • Medical Degree
• Full GMC registration

Desirable

• MRCP/FRCA/MRCS/MRCEM

ExperienceEssential

• At least 6 months experience in intensive care medicine
• Ability to take responsibility for assessment and clinical care of patients
• Experience of NHS or similar healthcare system

Desirable

• Experience in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology or neurosurgery
• Experience in anaesthesia, medicine or surgery

SkillsEssential

• Ability to communicate effectively in all situations
• Skills appropriate for a senior doctor in intensive care including advanced airway management
• ALS or CALS qualification within 4 years.

Desirable

• Completed QIP or audit in intensive care
• Evidence of activity in research or teaching
• Intensive care related course, conference

KnowledgeEssential

• Knowledge appropriate to the role of senior doctor on intensive care

• Postgraduate medical qualification
