Founded in 1962, it is now recognized as the largest stockholding bookstore in the country for engineering and computer science books. They are the main book supplier for several of Denmark’s largest companies and for various institutions focused on business and technical education.In addition to their physical bookstore located on the campus of the Danish Technical University (DTU), the company operates a large, custom-built e-commerce platform based on Ruby on Rails. This platform serves as a webshop for printed books, e-books, curated collections, subscriptions, and more. The system manages a large and complex catalog of books and customer data – a perfect challenge for developers who enjoy working with rich, large-scale databases and solving intricate technical problems.As we take over the development of the system, we are currently seeking a senior Ruby on Rails developer to lead the future team and oversee the maintenance and further development of the platform.Your responsibilities:
- Quickly get familiar with the system and start contributing to the feature backlog.
- Maintain and further develop the platform with scalability, security, and maintainability in mind.
- Lead technical discussions, propose architectural improvements, and guide future platform evolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product owners, managers, content teams) to define and deliver solutions.
- Mentor and support future team members (as the team expands).
Required experience and tech skills:
- 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on Ruby on Rails.
- Solid experience designing and maintaining relational databases (we use MS SQL).
- Experience with caching layers and background job frameworks (e.g., Redis, Sidekiq).
- Good understanding of RESTful API design and integration.
- Familiarity with modern frontend technologies (e.g., JavaScript, Hotwire, StimulusJS).
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and writing unit, integration, and system tests.
- Experience with ElasticSearch is a plus.
Other requirements:
- Good grasp of software development best practices.
- Experience working independently with complex codebases.
- Ability to take ownership of technical decisions and deliver solutions with minimal supervision.
- Full proficiency in English (daily collaboration with teammates and managers in Denmark).
- Proactive, problem-solving attitude and strong communication skills.
