18. It is the duty of every employee to report any negative or abnormal or unexpected event/incident as soon as possible after its occurrence by filling the appropriate Electronic Occurrence Variance Report (eOVR).Job-Specific Technical Tasks (ONLY to be used with the physicians, dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, nurses, clinical support services technicians, engineers, TAD technicians, EMT staff)
1. Critical Care Nurses (ICU/CCU) provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.
2. Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
3. Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration medications by a licensed registered nurse
4. Conduct thorough assessments of critically ill patients upon admission to the ICU, including physical assessments, neurological checks, and hemodynamic monitoring. Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures, explaining the process, obtaining consent, and addressing any questions or concerns
5. Conduct pre-procedure assessments, reviewing medical history, current medications, and relevant diagnostic tests to ensure patient readiness for the procedure.
6. Monitor patients closely during the procedure, assessing hemodynamic status, cardiac function, and response to interventions.
7. Administer medications as prescribed, including sedatives, analgesics, and anticoagulants, titrating doses based on patient response and physician orders.
8. Monitor patients post-procedure in the recovery area, assessing vital signs, neurological status, and vascular access sites for signs of complications.9. Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care, communicate changes in patient status, and implement treatment plans.
10. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, patient care conferences, and shift handoffs, providing comprehensive updates on patient condition, treatment responses, and care priorities
11. Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education, emotional support, and guidance throughout the critical care journey, addressing their concerns and answering questions.
12. Manage post-procedure hemostasis at vascular access sites, applying pressure dressings and monitoring for bleeding or hematoma formation.
13. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all aspects of patient care, including pre-procedure assessments, intra-procedure events, and post-procedure outcomes.
14. Ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of documentation in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory standards.
15. Foster a supportive and compassionate environment for patients and families, involving them in care decisions, facilitating visitation, and providing updates on patient progress.
16. Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families during times of crisis, including end-of-life care and bereavement support.
17. Advocate for patients’ and families’ needs and preferences, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and understanding of the critical care environment
18. Perform regular patient rounds, assessing pain levels, neurological status, and response to treatments, documenting findings accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
19. Continuously monitor patient vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and oxygenation levels, promptly identifying changes in condition and initiating appropriate interventions.
20. Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s condition
21. Takes samples for lab work, orders prescribed lab work and evaluates/interprets lab reports
22. Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination and treatment of patient
23. Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol
24. Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
25. Applies Hemodynamic, Phlebotomy and IV protocols
26. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and interprets and records electronic displays, such as intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures, and cardiac rhythms from cardiac monitors, respirators, ventilators, manometers, oxygen pumps, etc.
27. Monitors catheters, leads and tubing for proper placement and functioning
28. Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring/life support equipment shows adverse symptomatology
29. Acts as patient advocate by supporting the basic rights, values and beliefs of the patient
30. Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education, emotional support, and guidance throughout the ICU stay, addressing their concerns and answering questions.31. Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting
32. Float among various clinical services, where qualified and competent
33. Assists in the monitoring, procurement and proper inventory of supplies. Assists in maintaining equipment
34. Self-motivated and able to make decisions independently keeping physician, department manager and appropriate others informed and supporting hospital philosophy and decisions.
35. Assure timely flow of patient through department
36. Adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization, i.e., customer service, safety, compliance standards and all others
37. Follows and assists in the implementation and interpretation of policies and procedures
38. Monitor compliance with legislative requirements and organization polices and procedure and take appropriate action to correct any area of non-compliance
39. Reviews Policy & Procedure manuals on computer annually.
40. Attends and actively participates in meetings of committees as assigned. Assists in data collection for quality improvement
41. Attend 75% of all department meetings
42. Undertake learning and development activities to maintain competence and enhance the service provided to patients. Completes annual competencies
43. Supervise and provide nursing students, opportunities to observe and learn. « Participate in the training (Saudi ICU Nursing Diploma Programs) process for trainees within the rules of the training program under the supervision of the training program director.
44. SN 1 (added) duties and responsibilities
I. Provide clinical leadership to ensure the provision of highest quality nursing care
II. Promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence based practice
III. Acting as a role model and expert clinical practitioner
IV. Supervise and teach trained staff and health care assistants
V. To assist in the safe, effective and efficient management of the department within allocated resources
VI. To undertake delegated responsibility for the department in the absence of the Head Nurse / Charge Nurse
VII. Supervise and provide nursing students, opportunities to observe and learn. « Participate in the training (Saudi ICU Nursing Diploma Programs) process for trainees within the rules of the training program under the supervision of the training program director.
44.Equipment and Machinery:
The ICU/CCU staff nurse is expected to have knowledge of all equipment used in the area, however may not have daily clinical involvement.SkillsMust possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed
