Description du poste : About the jobARENA Centre for European Studies at the University of Oslo (UiO) invites applications for two temporary positions as post-doctoral fellow (SKO 1352) within political science, sociology, European studies or another relevant social sciences discipline. The post-doctoral positions are hosted by ARENA and funded by the European Research Council project (WAGE).ARENA Centre for European Studies is a multidisciplinary research centre at the University of Oslo, studying the direction, dynamics and sustainability of the evolving European political order. The centre has conducted research on political, economic, legal and social integration, transformation and cooperation in Europe since 1994. As a member of the ARENA team, you will be part of a professional research centre with extensive experience in coordinating international research projects and networks financed by European and Norwegian research funding institutions. More information about ARENA is available at .Project descriptionThe WAGE project is a comparative, multi-level research project that offers a unique and in-depth examination of how collective wage formation operates and evolves across Europe. It specifically focuses on the gendered dimensions of collective bargaining by studying its historical development, current practices, and potential future directions in three key countries: Germany, Norway, and Sweden. The project centers its data collection on the metal and care sectors and employs qualitative and ethnographic research methods.About the two positionsThe two successful applicants will form a research team in the WAGE project alongside project leader Ines Wagner at ARENA.The first post-doctoral fellow (PD 1) will work on the cases of Norway and Sweden, and the second post-doctoral fellow (PD 2) will work on the case of Germany. Please specify in your application which of the two positions, or both, you are applying for.The successful applicants are encouraged to pursue their own focused research interests within the frame of the project, but will be expected to conduct the following tasks:

  • Conduct interview and participant observation research in 1) Norway and Sweden (PD 1), and 2) Germany (PD 2), respectively
  • Fieldwork, data analysis and report writing within their case(s)
  • Write, publish and disseminate research results
  • Co-organise, together with the PI, international and national academic as well as policy and public events
  • Participation in project workshops and advisory board
  • Other project-related tasks, such as literature reports, etc.

You are welcome to get in contact with project leader and research professor Ines Wagner if you have questions regarding your research interests’ potential fit with WAGE’s research agenda.The appointments are fulltime positions for the duration of three years.The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their discipline.The proposed starting date for the positions are as soon as possible. You will be provided with office space, equipment, and services as well as necessary resources for research related field work and conference travel.As a post-doctoral fellow, you will have your base at ARENA Centre for European Studies. You will be expected to be present in Oslo and to participate in ongoing activities at ARENA and WAGE.Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline within the social sciences before taking up the post (SKO 1352).
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ability to conduct high quality research in areas relevant to WAGE.
  • A promising record of publications and the ability to draw on previous field research experience in crafting their research portion for the project.
  • Excellent written and oral proficiency in English is required.
  • Prior experience researching these topics at the national, comparative of EU level will be considered as an advantage: wage formation, the gender pay gap, the undervaluation of specific job segments, collective bargaining, industrial relations, gender equality and/or specific regional knowledge.
  • For PD position 1: The ability to conduct interviews in a Scandinavian language is an advantage, as this role involves semi-structured interviews and participant observation in Norway and Sweden.
  • For PD position 2: The ability to conduct interviews in a German is an advantage, as this role involves semi-structured interviews and participant observation in Germany.
  • Experiences with qualitative research methods is an advantage.
