Le Nelson Mandela University (NMU) recherche des candidats qualifiés pour des postes d’enseignant-chercheur en Botanique. Objectif principal du poste
Faciliter et administrer le processus d’apprentissage pour les étudiants en Systématiques et Évolution des Plantes et Algues, tant au niveau undergraduate qu’au niveau postgraduate. Ce rôle comprend également la recherche, l’engagement communautaire, et la contribution aux fonctions essentielles de l’université.
Axes de performance clés
- Enseignement : Animer des cours de haut niveau en évolution et systématique des algues et plantes.
- Mise à jour pédagogique : Développer en continu des supports d’apprentissage pour garantir la pertinence des modules.
- Évaluation des étudiants : Évaluer et reporter les performances étudiantes selon des normes établies.
- Recherche : Participer à des projets de recherche et publier dans des revues académiques.
- Encadrement : Superviser les projets de recherche des étudiants de tous niveaux.
- Engagement communautaire : Collaborer avec des organisations de conservation, des industries et la société civile.
- Administration : Gérer les opérations administratives du département.
- Gestion des collections : S’occuper du Ria Olivier Herbarium, située dans le département.
Compétences requises
- Connaissances : Solides connaissances en systématique et biologie évolutive des algues et plantes marines.
- Pédagogie : Capacité à utiliser des outils modernes pour faciliter l’apprentissage.
- Publications : Contributions significatives à la recherche avec des publications dans des revues évaluées par des pairs.
- Engagement : Expérience avec l’industrie et des organisations de conservation.
- Gestion : Compétences en gestion de collections botaniques.
- Leadership : Potentiel de leadership pour contribuer aux fonctions académiques.
- Interpersonnel : Compétences relationnelles solides et passion pour l’enseignement.
Exigences spécifiques au poste
Pour Senior Lecturer :
- Doctorat en Botanique, spécialisation en Systématique et Évolution des algues (orientation marine).
- Expérience en collecte d’échantillons d’algues et administration de collections herbiers.
- Preuves de réussite dans l’enseignement à tous les niveaux et de publications dans des revues accréditées.
- Engagement avec l’industrie et des organisations de la société civile.
Pour Lecturer :
- Master en Botanique, spécialisation en Systématique et Évolution des algues (orientation marine).
- Preuves d’enseignements réussis au niveau undergraduate.
- Expérience sur des projets de recherche et engagement avec des acteurs de la conservation.
Les candidats sont tenus de faire une présentation de 15 minutes sur un sujet approprié devant un panel départemental.

In considering candidates for appointment into the advertised posts, preference will be accorded to persons from a designated group in accordance with the approved Nelson Mandela University Employment Equity Plan.CORE PURPOSE OF JOBTo facilitate and administer the learning process for students of Plant and Algal Systematics and Evolution in the Department of Botany, Nelson Mandela University at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to do research, contribute to community engagement and to be involved in the core functions of the University.KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Facilitate teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at high levels of relevance and quality in the fields of algal and plant evolution and systematics.
- Develop and update learning and teaching materials continuously to maintain modules as contemporary and current.
- Evaluate student performance in accordance with acceptable benchmarks and report the same to University Administration using appropriate student assessments.
- Contribute to the generation of new knowledge through involvement in independent research, delivering peer-reviewed publications in accredited journals.
- Supervise the research projects of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Be involved in community engagement programmes and partnerships with conservation organisations, industry, and civil society.
- Take responsibility for aspects of the core administrative functions of the Department, Cluster and University,
- Take responsibility for the administration of the Ria Olivier Herbarium, which is housed within the department.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Possess sound knowledge in the theory and application in the Botanical discipline(s) of Systematics and/or Evolutionary Biology of marine algae and plants.
- Effective facilitation of learning in these discipline(s) in Botany using modern teaching aids.
- Contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of publications.
- Experience in engagement with industry, conservation organisations and civil society.
- Have expertise in the effective management and stewardship of botanical collections.
- At the Senior Lecturer level have potential for leadership in Departmental and Faculty learning and teaching as well as research.
- Display good interpersonal skills, a passion for students and the ability to work well in a team.
REQUIREMENTSSenior Lecturer
- A PhD in Botany in the discipline of Algal Systematics and Evolution (with a strong marine focus).
- Experience of algal and plant specimen collection and herbarium administration.
- Evidence of successful teaching at all levels.
- A minimum of 1-5 years relevant working experience, including lecturing.
- Evidence of research publications in DHET accredited journals in related fields.
- Evidence of some engagement with industry, conservation organisations and civil society.
Lecturer
- An MSc in Botany in the discipline of Algal Systematics and Evolution (with a strong marine focus).
- Experience of algal and plant specimen collection and herbarium administration.
- Evidence of successful teaching of at least undergraduates.
- A minimum of 1-3 years relevant working experience, including lecturing.
- Evidence of participating in a research team or project.
- Evidence of some engagement with industry, conservation organisations and civil society.
