Présentation générale : Un poste de doctorant passionnant est proposé pour un candidat motivé, autonome et curieux. Si vous vous intéressez aux processus biologiques dans les infrastructures de traitement des eaux usées et que vous appréciez aussi bien le travail en laboratoire que l’analyse de données, cette opportunité pourrait vous convenir. En plus de vos recherches et de votre développement personnel en tant que chercheur, vous aurez la possibilité de participer à l’enseignement et d’interagir avec des étudiants au niveau licence et master.

Environnement de recherche : Ce projet est situé au sein de la Division de la Technologie de l’Environnement Aquatique (WET) du Département d’Architecture et d’Ingénierie Civile. Vous ferez partie du groupe de recherche en Gestion des Eaux Usées et Biotechnologie Environnementale, bénéficiant de la supervision de trois chercheurs seniors et collaborant avec d’autres doctorants et post-doctorants.

Axes de recherche préalables : Les recherches antérieures incluent des thèmes variés tels que :

Anammox
Fermentation
Électrochimie microbienne
Glace granulaire aérobie
Processus de biofilm à lit mobile
Systèmes aquacoles à recirculation

Des projets sont souvent réalisés en collaboration avec des municipalités, des entreprises de R&D et des consultants.

Aperçu du projet : Le projet de doctorat se concentrera sur les communautés microbiennes impliquées dans l’oxydation du méthane au sein des infrastructures de traitement des eaux usées. Vos activités incluront :

Échantillonnage sur le terrain
Expérimentations en laboratoire pour évaluer l’activité de cultures microbiennes mixtes
Mesures chimiques
Techniques de biologie moléculaire (ex. : métagénomique) pour étudier les communautés microbiennes et leurs fonctions
Analyse de données

Principales responsabilités :
Vous serez en charge des tâches suivantes :

Conduire des recherches dans le cadre du projet de doctorat (80 %)
Publier des articles scientifiques et présenter à des conférences
Participer à l’enseignement ou à d’autres tâches départementales (20 %)
Suivre des cours liés au programme de doctorat

Profil recherché :
Qualifications requises :

Diplôme de MSc en Ingénierie Environnementale, Ingénierie Chimique, Ingénierie Civile, Biotechnologie ou domaine connexe
Compétences solides en communication écrite et orale en anglais

Merits supplémentaires :

Expérience en fonctionnement de bioréacteurs
Maîtrise des techniques de biologie moléculaire
Compétences en analyse de données, statistiques ou programmation
Connaissances en ingénierie des eaux usées

Conditions de contrat :
Le poste est à temps plein pour une durée de quatre ans, avec possibilité d’extension jusqu’à cinq ans si des responsabilités d’enseignement départementales sont acceptées.

Then this position may be right for you.While the focus will be on your research and personal development as a researcher, the position also provides opportunities to participate in teaching and engage with students at both undergraduate and master levels.The project centers on microorganisms that oxidize methane and reduce emissions of this potent greenhouse gas from wastewater systems.Research environmentThe project is based at the Division of Water Environment Technology (WET), within the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering. You will be part of the Wastewater Management and Environmental Biotechnology research group.You will be supervised by three senior researchers and work alongside other PhD students and postdocs in the group. Our interdisciplinary research spans microbial ecology theory to process engineering, and includes the development of new biotechnological processes.Examples of previous research areas include:

Anammox
Fermentation
Microbial electrochemistry
Aerobic granular sludge
Moving bed biofilm processes
Recirculating aquaculture systems

Many of our projects are conducted in collaboration with municipalities, R&D companies, and consultants.Project overviewIn this PhD project, you will investigate microbial communities involved in methane oxidation within wastewater infrastructure (e.g., sewers and treatment plants). Your work will include:

Field sampling
Laboratory experiments assessing the activity of mixed microbial cultures
Chemical measurements
Molecular biology techniques (e.g., metagenomics) to study microbial communities and their function
Data analysis.

Your profileRequired qualifications

MSc degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Additional meritsExperience in:

Experience operating bioreactors
Proficiency in molecular biology techniques
Skills in data analysis, statistics, or programming
